I hope you are
enjoying the fall! I certainly am as it is my favorite
season. The purpose of this note is to update you on some of the things
that are happening in school.
We have been moving right along with the curriculum. The children are
learning to be organized and independent! I am pleased with their
efforts! They are starting to write more and more.
In their
writing I am looking for capital letters at
the beginning of sentences, end marks and spaces between words. I
appreciate your efforts in helping your child master the vocabulary
words sent home. It is so vital to their success and confidence in
reading! Also, the more reading and writing they do at home, the
better.
In
phonics we have finished unit one and I
have introduced the short vowel sounds. We started with short a and are
moving on to short i. This will open up a whole new world as they begin
to really sound out words and learn to read. Many of the phonics pages
have stories and sentences. Please have your child practice their oral
reading skills at home by reading these stories and sentences to you.
It also reinforces what they are being taught in class.
In
math the children are learning addition
facts to 12. They are doing a fantastic job! After Thanksgiving, we
will start subtraction.
The children have
mastered the rules and clearly know the expectations I have in the
classroom. They are a kind and considerate group. I appreciate their
super behavior!
Thank you for your generosity with our charitable food drive. We
received 91 boxes/bags of pasta! I feel it is a very worthwhile
project. The food is a concrete and visual reminder that the children
are followers of Jesus. I refer to it often in our religion lessons.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns about your child,
please call me or send a note. I will continue to keep you informed on
their Weekly Progress Report folder. I wish you all a wonderful and
happy holiday season.
Sincerely,
Miss Conley |
