 November 2008

Happy November!

The school year is moving along smoothly. The Holidays are fast approaching and we are keeping very busy in 6N.

We had a great Halloween party. We also met our 2nd grade buddies from Mrs. Rockwell’s class. We all had fun making a Halloween craft.

We have started reading the book “Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry”. It is a Newberry award winning book about an African American family in the 1930’s.

We have been continuing to diagram sentences in English. Each time we review a part of speech we then learn how to diagram it. Right now we are working on direct and indirect object. It takes a little practice, but the students are really starting to get the hang of it. Diagramming sentences is a good skill because it requires the students to continuously review all the parts of speech. We are also finishing up our chapter on punctuation.

We are still in the Old Testament in Religion. Besides reading the text, I have been reading from a Bible storybook. The children take notes while I read. They are learning a valuable skill that they will use throughout their academic career. They are getting better at it every week. We will continue to practice taking notes for the school year.

In Science we are starting a new chapter. We will be discussing cell division (mitosis) and heredity. Be prepared to answer questions like, “Where did I get my blue eyes?”

In Math we will be reviewing divisibility rules and fractions. We are moving quickly through all review material. The students are always welcome to come to my help session on Friday mornings at 8:00am.

We have parent/teacher conferences at the end of this month. I will be sending out reminders.

Have a great month,

Mrs. Noyes
