October 2008

Dear Parents:

Wow!  The first month of kindergarten has really flown by!  The children have done a fantastic job adjusting to a more structured schedule and being responsible students.  I am so proud of them!

We had a wonderful field trip to Parlee Farms! Thanks so much to Mrs. Hyotte, Mrs. Jenkins, Mrs.  Perkins, Mrs. Rioux and Mrs. Sewhuk-Thomas for joining us.  I’m not sure what was more exciting picking apples and pumpkins or riding on the school bus!  A huge thank you to Mrs. Rioux for not only taking so many great pictures of the children but also making CD’s for everyone!  The children loved seeing their pictures on my computer.  If you would like to chaperone on future field trips or help out in the classroom please let me know.  I may not always be able to take everyone on the field trip but now that we are in full swing I welcome help in the classroom.  I would like to set up a schedule of classroom helpers since an extra pair of hands or two really does make things easier.  If you know you are available a particular day once or twice a month please let me know.

We do have a few special events in October to look forward to starting this Thursday, Oct. 2nd with our annual What Would Jesus Do (WWJD) prayer service.  This is a special service presented by the students at Infant Jesus, if you have a chance to join us at 9:30am in the church I highly recommend it.  I am also planning a walk to Sullivan Park on Marshall Street on Friday, October 17th.  We will have a scavenger hunt, gather leaves for a leaf project and enjoy our snack on a beautiful (hopefully) fall day.  A permission slip has been included in today’s folder.  If you would like to join us please let me know.  Also this month we have our first school wide enrichment program; Laser Light Science Spectacular at 9:15am, parents and younger siblings are always invited to attend these events.  And finally, October 31st is our Black and Orange Day!  We have free dress, but wear sneakers for gym!

More pictures of our class are in the Photo Gallery.

I want to thank everyone who offered to be the classroom parent.  Mrs. Hyotte was chosen, she will help organize our classroom parties and activities, contact chaperone, and organize volunteers.  Our first classroom party will be on Black and Orange Day (Oct. 31st) and I’m sure she will be contacting some of you for your assistance.  Thanks in advance Mrs. Hyotte for taking on this responsibility!

During the month of October we will learn the letters F, B, L, and P in language arts.  We will continue our math lessons on patterning and also practice our counting.  Our estimation jar has started its rotation through the classroom and it’s a great way to practice our counting.  Finn is starting his road trips this week.  Where will he have his first sleepover?  We will find out on Friday.  In religion we are discussing what it means to be part of a family at home and at school and that Jesus also had a family.  We have started our Star of the Week posters as we continue to learn more about each other.  And finally our Pizza Hut Book-its program starts this week.  To earn a free personal pan pizza or a child’s lunch buffet just read with your child one book a week (minimum) each month and have them, with you, complete the back of the form.  Once I receive it I will send home their coupon.  If you need a form just let me know.

We have a busy, fun month ahead of us!  I want to thank you once again for sharing your children with me.  They have been a wonderful class to teach!

Enjoy the colors of this beautiful season!
