News from Mrs. Malizia's kindergarten class
Seven Dwarf's Drive
Fantasyland, NH 03060
November/December 2008
I
look forward to meeting with all of you next week to discuss your
child’s progress. I can assure you that they are all working hard and
many are already showing so many signs of growth. What an awesome group
of children! Needless to say we have all settled into a nice routine
and having a great time in Kindergarten. Our themes for
November/December are:
Nov. 3-14 “N” is for Native Americans
17-25 “T” is for Turkey and Thanksgiving
Dec. 1-12 “C” is for Christmas
15-22 “J” is for Jesus
Thank you to Mrs. Obinelo and Mrs. Fortin for joining us on our trip to
Beaver Brook. It was a great way to begin our study of Native
Americans. We have been busy exploring Native American life. We
made a wigwam, made our own pottery and used berries to paint them. We
also made buckskin paintings. The children have also enjoyed writing
using Native American writing symbols. On Tuesday November 25th
we will join our kindergarten friends as we celebrate Thanksgiving with
a Three Sisters Feast. We will be making our treat out of corn. We
will also make a replica of a Native American Birch Bark container to
share our treat.
In
language we will continue to write daily using our “kindergarten
spelling” The children are learning to write by hearing sounds and
writing the letters they hear. We have already made several class books
that will be available during conferences for you to enjoy. I have also
put together two small photo albums for you to see KM in action. These
will be on display during our conferences next week.
During math time the children have been busy practicing numeral writing,
patterning, and counting by 5’s. They have also been introduced to the
penny and nickel. We will begin to explore the concepts of greater than
and less than.
As
December is quickly approaching I would like to inform you of two
important events.
Toys for
Tots Drive:
We will be coordinating a toys for tots drive for our kindergarten
holiday outreach project. To kick off this event we will have a
representative from the Marines Corp visit us on Monday Nov. 24th.
Kindergarten students are asked to bring a NEW unwrap toy to school by
Friday December 12th.
Advent Prayer Service:
As part of our religion program we will be preparing the Advent Prayer
Service for our school. Please plan on joining us Tuesday, Dec. 16 at
9:30 am in the church.
Have a Wonderful Month!!!!
