Fall Greetings! Our
first month of school has been a smashing success. I am very impressed
with the ease of the transition into kindergarten. This group is eager,
excited, and energetic. They have become familiar with our rules,
procedures and expectations. I am very encouraged with their ability to
move through our learning center and take responsibility for
themselves.
Curriculum:
This month in the area of language arts we will cover the letters F, B,
L, and P. We will be writing in our journals and reading our Morning
Message. For each letter we cover the children will bring home a
Little Book that they should read to three people and return when they
are done. When kids return the book they will be able to choose from
our prize bucket.
In science we will
observe fall changes, examine leaves and pumpkins and note our
discoveries in a science log each student will keep.
In math we will
continue the concept of pattern. Numeral writing will also be a focus.
We will also be sorting and classifying, teaching them to compare and
contrast and observe different attributes. I will introduce the Venn
diagram. We will introduce our first coin, the penny.
Book Orders:
The Scholastic book orders are due Tuesday, Oct. 2nd.
Buddies:
We have formed a buddy relationship with Mrs. Earlys 5th
grade class. We will get together monthly for activities and we will
sit with the big kids in church.
Email:
I am officially receiving email on my classroom computer. My address is
root@ijschool.org. I will include our school email policy with this
newsletter.
Birthdays:
Happy Birthday to our friend Shubh this month!!
Activity
Sheet: I have put together a weekly
Kindergarten Activity Sheet. This will give you some specific
activities we will be covering for the week. My hope is that this tool
will help you have a meaningful dialogue with your child because you
will be able to reference specific activities. Let me know if you find
this useful.
